Our Practice

Our weekly One Dharma meetings begin with a group metta (lovingkindness) practice. Metta is a strong wish for the happiness and wellbeing of ourselves and others. By doing this practice consistently, we begin to access and generate universal lovingkindness and compassion. After five minutes of silent metta practice, we transition into 25 minutes of silent meditation. Newcomers are taught a basic breath awareness practice that is used in many Buddhist traditions to help concentrate the mind and bring awareness into the present moment. We then observe five minutes of silent walking practice followed by another 30 minutes of meditaiton. After completing the meditation practice, we chant the *Diamond Sutra, a very simple chant that focuses on the truth of life's impermanence. Finally, we have a group discussion, which is usually based on an article disseminated through our Yahoo Newsgroup . You can also access these articles through our blog.

*Diamond Sutra

So you should view this fleeting world

A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream

A flash of lightning in a summer cloud

A flickering lamp, a phantom and a dream
